Brendan Knox, 6-foot-10 and 222 pounds from Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist College, has signed with the Tigers and is already on campus.
Knox averaged 12.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 5.3 blocks per game in leading Spartanburg Methods to a 24-8 record in 2008. He was among the nation’s junior college leaders, shooting 70 percent from the field.
Knox said he was eager to play in the Southeastern Conference.
“It’s an athletic conference, so I feel like I’ll fit in there,” Knox said. “I need to gain some weight, because it’s one of the best conferences in the country.”
The players in Auburn’s highly regarded recruiting class will soon be together on campus. Only Kenny Gabriel’s status remains undecided.
Knox is the fourth player Auburn fifth-year coach Jeff Lebo has signed since last spring, joining power forward Francis Aihe of Santa Fe Community College in Winter Park, Fla.; Oklahoma transfer Tony Neysmith and Indiana transfer Brandon McGee.
Freshman guard Frankie Sullivan and Aihe are already on campus. Tay Waller and Johnny Lett have completed their junior college work and are expected to arrive this week.
