It was a disappointing night for the Auburn soccer team at Missouri. It was a humbling night at home for the Auburn volleyball team.

The Tiger soccer team gave up a goal midway through the second half and suffered their first loss of the season, 1-0. The volleyball team, in its own War Eagle Invitational, was shut out by Samford 3-0 in Wade Benson’s first match as head coach.

Missouri, among the Big 12 soccer favorites, took 23 shots on goal to just 11 for Auburn.

"The girls had a great effort, and this is a team that is going to have a great season,” Auburn coach Karen Hoppa said. “It was a tough match between a great SEC team and a great Big 12 team. Hopefully, it is a game that will make us better.”

Benson looked for something positive in his team’s loss to Samford, which had lost 3-0 to New Orleans earlier in the day.

“We’re not putting our heads down at all,” Benson said. “This is a process for us where wins and loses the first year are not what we are trying to obtain. We are looking at trying to get certain goals done, and if we accomplish that goal tonight, we are going to be happy with the match.”
