Caitlin King breaks out of scoring slump/Auburn University

AUBURN - Caitlin King scored early and late to lead Auburn's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Vanderbilt at the Auburn Soccer Complex on Friday night.

King scored Auburn's quickest goal of the season in the match's seventh minute, then put the match away in the 65th minute.

Auburn broke a three-game losing streak and moved to 6-6-3 overall and 3-4 in the SEC, two points bnehind second-place Ole Miss in the West Division race.

“I am really proud of our team," Auburn coach Karen Hoppa said. "It’s tough to go on a three-game losing streak like we did against three of the best teams in the conference, and the response tonight makes me really excited for the last four matches of the season,

“We did everything we needed to do. We played with energy, we attacked with numbers and we scored some great goals.”

King, who had not registered a goal in more than a month, snapped her personal drought at the 6:39 mark. It was Auburn's first goal since a 2-1 win over Arkansas on Oct. 2.

,“This week in practice we focused a lot on getting into the attack and using our offense as much as we could, and that’s what I tried to do,” King said. “I tried to concentrate on making every run I could and asking myself if I could do more. I think I did that tonight and I want to take that into the next four games.”

Mary Coffed hit her third goal of the season to make it 2-0 and King, a preseason All-SEC selection, closed out the scoring.

VOLLEYBALL

Tigers fall to nationally ranked Gators

The Auburn volleyball team hung tough, but No. 9 Florida escaped with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21) victory at the Student Activities Center on Friday.

Auburn fell to 11-8 overall and 3-5 in the SEC. Florida improved to 13-3 and 7-2.

“This match was really anybody’s match and we did some good things
tonight,” Auburn coach Wade Benson said. “We are definitely in these tough matches, but we’re young and just not at that point where we can confidently come away with the win.

“Other teams are now seeing that it isn’t easy to come to Auburn anymore. We’re going to put up a fight, and that is a major positive for our team.”

Freshman Sarah Bullock recorded her third double-double of the season,
finishing with a team-high 10 kills and 11 digs. Junior Morgan Johns added nine kills, while sophomore Kelly Fidero and freshman Katherine Culwell finished with eight and seven kills, respectively.
