Have the past nine days been unique in Auburn's football recruiting history? Certainly, there has been nothing like them in recent years.
On Nov. 6, the Tigers got a commitment from Michael Dyer, the No. 1 prospect in Arkansas, No. 7 prospect nationally and No. 1 running back. And on Friday, they got a commitment from Trovon Reed, the No. 1 prospect in Louisiana, the No. 45 player overall and No. 9 receiver.
If Auburn has ever signed the No. 1 player in Louisiana, I don't remember it. Other than wide receiver DeAngelo Benton, who was in an unusual situation last season, I don't remember Auburn even signing a player from Louisiana that LSU badly wanted.
Throw in wide receiver Antonio Goodwin, the No. 2 player in Georgia, and it's already been quite a recruiting season for Gene Chizik and his staff. And there could be more to come.
It's hard not to pull for Reed, considering all he's been through. He has overcome so much to get to where he is.
Auburn's recruiting efforts are starting to get national attention. Here is what Tom Luginbill of ESPN/Scouts Inc., in our opinion the best analyst in the business, had to say:
"As we mentioned last week with the Michael Dyer commitment; this would set off a domino effect of commitments for the Tigers and Reed is a huge piece of the puzzle from an offensive firepower standpoint. From the moment Gene Chizik was hired the staff knew they needed to upgrade the offensive skill personnel, and Reed certainly does that in a manner that should lead to him having an impact right away. He is fast, explosive and versatile having played QB as well as defense and he can certainly be a factor in the return game.
"Auburn continues to climb the ladder in recruiting circles for the nation's and southeast region's top prospects. The next step is to make these same inroads in the offensive line before signing day arrives."

Did the man who was allegedly robbed by three Tennessee football players really say that, because he is a Tennessee fan, he doesn't want them kicked off the team? Unreal. ...
LSU coach Les Miles has gotten a lot of praise for not going public with his displeasure an obvious interception being waved off by officials on the field and in the replay booth at Alabama. I believe it's got more to do with not wanting to get fined than some great amount of class. Does anyone else remember his whining and complaining about a non-interference call on Auburn in 2006? ...
Chris Todd has 17 touchdown passes and just three interceptions going into tonight's game at Georgia. He'll almost certainly break the 2,000-yard barrier tonight. Who would have believed that when he was watching from the bench at the end of last season?
Until later ...
