A season after it seemed Auburn basketball had turned the corner, winning 24 games and going 10-6 in the Southeastern Conference, it has come to this:

Over the past five days, the Tigers have lost to Missouri State and Central Florida. Both were picked to finish last in their conferences, and neither game was close. Central Florida was 0-27 against Southeastern Conference teams before Friday night. And it led Auburn by 21 in the second half.

A lot of basketball remains to be played, and it's not impossible that the Tigers could turn things around in Jeff Lebo's sixth season. I didn't see either of the past two games, but they sure sounded horrendous on the radio.

Auburn shouldn't lose to Missouri State or Central Florida. It certainly shouldn't lose to both. And even more certainly it shouldn't be blown out.

New players, the injury Tay Waller, none of those things explain those two performances.

For most of Lebo's time at Auburn, the Tigers have had no inside power. Korvotney Barber changed that last season, but he's gone. And they seemingly have nothing on the inside again.

How could that be after all this time? I don't have an answer for that.

I think Lebo knows the game. He's a good man who cares about his players and loves being at Auburn. But there's no way to defend the past two performances. No way at all.
